Janey Pearson

This post is about the most amazing Market Researcher I have ever had the pleasure of working with, and I know I will never work with anyone like her again. Her name is Janey Pearson.

Janey died suddenly and tragically on Friday, a few weeks after her 51st birthday. I have known Janey since 1987 when I joined Johnson & Johnson as an eager Product Manager and she was the Market Research Director (having also joined a few months before me). Although she left and rejoined J&J over the years, her influence was quite staggering. Her presence was phenomenal.

She was not a classic market research person, but an inspiration and had the most amazing passion and insight. She was also a close friend to myself and in fact almost everyone at J&J, and many people turned to her when they had both business and personal issues to solve.

Janey always had as much time and advice as you needed. Janey was the person I would always turn to for advice on how to deal with a people situation, a business situation, a marketing situation and a personal situation. She was not only able to listen but was able to hear the issues.

Janey proves that it is true. Only the good die young.

She leaves behind her husband Richard and her 2 boys who she adored (James and Nick). And many sad people that she touched at J&J and beyond. I will miss you Janey. Dearly.

Really sad news Gary, Janey was always brilliant with me... very friendly and open despite her senior position.

Thoughts with her family and friends.

After Janey's funeral today her husband Richard told us that Johnson & Johnson and Cadbury are going to create an award each year for a rising market research/ marketing person that demonstrates the kind of management skill and style that Janey had. This is an amazing idea. Once there are more details I will update them.
