On the entry page of the website of the trendy restaurant called Smiths of Smithfield in London they make much of having a belief and take on the world they operate in. But does it make a jot of difference in what they do in the restaurant?
This is what John Tordde who owns the restaurant says on the entry page: I have always believed that if you are passionate about the quality of food and almost obsess about where the produce comes from, the rest is simple. What we have here is a team of people who understand what SMITHS is about and we all work hard to create the best place possible for our customers.
This statement as the starting point for the site is very encouraging. It suggests that the business has a belief and a clear take on what they want to take as the core and innovate and create a distinctive and unique experience.
This though also makes it clear that having a belief is more than just having some nice words and a pretty site. The restaurant experience is not good. Unlike the statement, the staff are surly and off hand and forgetful. The food is good but not stunning and it is not clear how they are bringing the belief and take on the word through everything they do.
As you can see from the picture, the place looks great and is buzzy.
But there is no point having a belief if you do not then embrace and live it every day in every way. Don't bother. A belief is more than just a statement it is how you should live and breath through your entire experience.
